Privacy Policy

1. Limitations on Services.

a. We will not write materials to be submitted for academic credit. We will proofread and edit such materials, but only to such extent as they remain your own work. However, we will not edit or proofread materials to be submitted specifically for evaluation of your writing skills, such as for a composition class. We do proofread and edit all other academic materials whose main purpose is content rather than composition, such as research papers, project descriptions, literary reviews, and theses. See "Other Ethical Considerations" on discussing our services with your professors.

b. We reserve the right to reject any project, for whatever reasons. We may or may not choose to share those reasons with you. Upon such rejection, any payments made will be promptly returned to you.

2. Contracts

a. Each project will be bound by a contract. Small projects will only require informal but documented contracts, such as a series of emails including one from you specifying project details, a quote from us based specifically on those details, and your acceptance of that quote. Both parties reserve the right to require a printed, signed contract.

c. The extent of each project will be limited by the contract for that project. Projects may be extended by mutual consent, at which point documentation of such consent is to be considered an amendment to the original contract.

3. Payment.

a. In general, we expect half the fee before beginning a project and the remaining half on delivery. Depending on the specific contract at hand, other conditions may apply.

b. We do not currently work with a specific escrow service, but are happy to use the reputable, independent escrow service of your choice. If you wish to use an escrow arrangement, any fees are your responsibility.

4. Intellectual Property.

a. If you have commissioned a writing project, you probably want to be able to use the material as you see fit. Therefore, in almost all instances, the copyrights will belong to you upon payment of our fee in full. This will be specified in each contract for a writing project.

b. We enjoy but do not expect by-lines or other author attribution. However, our authors do expect material written by them to be attributed only to them, or to no one. We realize that there is little we can do to enforce this expectation. However, if we see our work attributed to someone else, the very least we will do is refuse to work for the offending client again. You should also bear in mind that passing off someone else's writing as your own is not as easy as it sounds. (See "Other Ethical Considerations.")

c. Any work you submit to us for editing or proofreading is and shall remain your own. We will not reproduce, sell, or make available to a third party any materials you send, unless you have given express and specific consent. This clause (4.c) may be considered a non-disclosure agreement. Both parties reserve the right to require a printed and signed non-disclosure or mutual non-disclosure agreement.

5. Other Ethical Considerations.

Be straightforward about your use of our services. Let your professor, boss, or editor know that you have sifted your writing through our proofreading skills, or that you have used our writing services to produce a piece. Sudden, drastic, and unexplained improvements in writing skill are looked upon with suspicion. Even if you are an excellent writer and are simply using our services as a convenience, don't demean yourself by passing off someone else's style of writing as your own.

6. Change Policy.

We reserve the right to make changes to these Terms and Conditions at any time. In general, such changes will apply only to new projects and will not retroactively affect existing projects. If we must make a change that affects your existing project, you will be notified in a timely manner.

7. Privacy Policy.

a. We will not sell, lend, or in any way disclose to a third party your name, your contact information, or the materials you submit to us. (See also "Intellectual Property.")

b. We may post general descriptions of completed projects on this web site for publicity purposes. These postings will not include information that would identify you or or company. Nevertheless, if at any time you decide that you do not want your project to be mentioned on this site, notify us immediately and we will comply with your wishes as promptly as possible.

c. If you send us a positive comment on our work, we may request your permission to post it, with your initials and company name, on this web site. We will not post your initials or company name without your express permission.
